Albemarle Sound Cooperative (ASC) is the product of a small group of African American farmers in Williamston, North Carolina who, through the Farm Bill 2014/2018 and NC State Extension Pilot Program, came together and pooled their knowledge to help each other farm, harvest, and process hemp. Retaining heir property is a driving force for the cooperative and continues to be our leading philosophy when we reach out to new growers.
In January of 2020, Albemarle Sound Cooperative was registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State with a mission to support Eastern North Carolina farmers in the growth, processing and sale of hemp products and to use the growth of hemp to empower African American farmers and landowners.
