About Us

The Albemarle Sound Cooperative (ASC) is formed pursuant to sub-chapter 54 of the General Statutes of North Carolina. The cooperative aims to provide social, economic, and environmental benefits to Williamston and surrounding communities:


  1. Support sustainable regional agriculture.
  2. Provide access for small-scale farmers to commercial supply chains.
  3. Assist producers in moving towards more sustainable practices.
  4. Drive agricultural and working land protections in the region.
  5. Increase generational wealth.

our purpose and values

The purposes for which Albemarle Sound Cooperative (ASC) are formed:

  1. To associate members together for their mutual benefit and to provide any lawful goods and services to its members and the community.
  2. For production and processing of agricultural products as determined by its Board.
  3. To engage in the following activities:

  • Purchasing, processing and sale of hemp.
  • Offer business support services for members related to the hemp production.
  • Provide education and resources to members.
  • Engage in all activities to attain the purposes of the           

           Albemarle Sound Cooperative and to exerciseall power  

       now or hereafter permitted by the laws of the state of 

            North Carolina in sub- chapter 54 of the General State of North Carolina.

  • Members of the ASC must have their Farm Service Plan  submitted by December 31 of the planting year.

Our values for which Albemarle Sound Cooperative (ASC) are formed:

  1. Inspire: Innovate and find ways to create impact, to inspire, and to engage others.
  2.  Be Resourceful: Solve problems and constantly aim to find creative solutions to promote economic equity and get the job done .
  3. Show Courage: Step forward to create an open dialogue about farming issues and work together to forge those policy issues ahead.
  4. Be Relevant: As global citizens in the changing landscape, strive to better serve our communities, our colleagues and stakeholders, and the world at large. 
  5. Promote Trust: Listen to and learn from each other. Practice openness, collaboration, fairness, and sharing for the greater benefit of all. 
  6. Motivate farmers in innovative ways to produce emerging crops. 
  7. Be of good character.
  8. Practice forward thinking.
  9. Be honest and trustworthy.
